Busy Summer

Wow! A lot has happened this summer.

Since I wrote on this site last, "Bo" came back to us. The guy that bought it could not handled it and, since he was a friend of my son, he agreed to take it back. Now riding season is almost over and if we don't sell it before the winter we'll do some changes to it in the cold months.

We took an amazing trip to Spain and had the most wonderful time in Galicia. We got to know new family, see beautiful sites and have some awesome food. I was able to reconnect with my cousin in Vigo, whom I had not seen since 1998.

We traveled to Miami next, to see my mother who came from Cuba for a visit. And returned home so my wife could have an operation. Luckily everything went fine and she is now back at work as the new school year has started.

I created a website to go with the motorcycle repair shop I am trying to start, you can check it out at www.brazencustoms.com. It is a work in progress but I hope it works out.

The new bike project was put on hold, and of course, revisions have been made so it will be different once I start it again. For the moment I am busy working on some bikes that have come my way (have to pay the bills)

I might be taking this blog to a broader spectrum (there are not many followers, so I don't think it will make much difference) but I think I will post some of my other works (poetry, short stories, etc) and see where it goes.

For now this is it, time to go work and earn the frijoles!

Hard Work.

There is nothing as satisfying as creating, fixing or working on something with your own hands. When my son bought his motorcycle I was a bit apprehensive about all the work required. I must say, though, that now when I look at it I feel a sense of pride at the amount of work and sweat we put into it. It is a 31 year old bike so there are going to be problems along the way. We had to remove the carburetors twice already. We have adjusted them several times and now we need to change the spark plugs, once again. A couple of days ago, the weather improved and he started her to take her out for a spin and the rear wheel locked up. When we were working on it we cleaned the wheel well and inspected the shoes. I knew they would need replacing but for the moment just put them back until the bike was ready to ride. When the wheel locked we had to remove it. My prayer

I am thankful, when I open my eyes in the morning.   Thankful for another day to appreciate the beauty all around me.   I thank the Sun for the warmth that loosens my tired bones,   the Earth for keeping me in touch with my roots   and reminding me to honor those who walked before me.   I pray to Brother Bear to grant me the strength for one more journey.   To Brother Eagle, to give me a vision to guide my path.   To Brother Owl, I pray for the wisdom to interpret all I see and hear.   To  the  Mother I pray for the courage to carry on.   Should she decide that today is the day I must join her, once again,   I pray that I can do so with my head held high.   With my soul free from sadness or regrets,   Satisfied with the work done and the knowledge   That my love will remain with those that follow. I will watch over you, until we meet again.

Camping

There are many things I enjoy in life; camping is one of the ones that brings most joy. Sadly, it has been an awfully long time since the last time we went camping.   It all started at a garage sale. When my son was in kindergarten, he learned from a friend in school, whose family would go camping in the Carolinas, about how much fun they had, and he wanted to experience it. We dropped my wife off at a seminar, one Saturday morning, and proceeded to visit garage sales nearby as we often did.   We found a large tent at one sale for $10.00 and three, almost new sleeping bags for a buck each. At the next one we found a brand new, in the box, Coleman lantern for another $10. So, $23.00 later we picked up my wife and told her: “We are going camping”   We packed some food, a few utensils and a couple of other things we thought we might need and headed south to a park in one of the Florida Keys.
